Compatibility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, it&#8217;s worth pointing out that not all Cordless DECT Phones are compatible with DECT repeaters &#8211; an easy way to tell if your phone is compatible is to check the set-up menu on your handset, and if you can find a &#8220;Repeater mode&#8221; option somewhere in there, it&#8217;s safe to say that your system is repeater compatible. &nbsp;If in doubt, check your user guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally speaking we have found the following brands to be repeater compatible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Gigaset &#8211; Only work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/bt-diverse-gigaset-dect-repeater\/\">BT Diverse Repeater<\/a> (made by Siemens)<\/li><li>BT (<strong>Diverse<\/strong> range only) &#8211; Only work with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/bt-diverse-gigaset-dect-repeater\/\">BT Diverse Repeater<\/a><\/li><li>Panasonic (all ranges &#8211; <strong>KX-TG<\/strong>) &#8211; Work well with Panasonic branded repeaters and some RTX repeaters<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please note that this isn&#8217;t a definitive list and you should always check with your manufacturer if you are at all unsure.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A repeater will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/how-do-i-register-my-dect-cordless-phone-handset\/\">register to your base unit<\/a> in a similar manner as an&nbsp;additional&nbsp;handset on the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard repeaters can only be installed once in any given direction; for example, if your base unit is in a central location, you can put a repeater to the North, South, East and\/or West of your base to extend the range. You can&#8217;t however, put a repeater to the North, then another one to the North of that, effectively &#8220;<em>daisy-chaining<\/em>&#8221; the repeaters together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-css-opacity has-luminous-vivid-orange-background-color has-background is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-would-i-need-a-repeater\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_would_I_need_a_repeater\"><\/span><strong>Why would I need a repeater?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your existing base unit is transmitting and receiving radio signals to and from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/telephones\/cordless-phones\/additional-digital-handsets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cordless handsets<\/a>. <br>In some environments the signal from your base unit can become weaker depending on various conditions; thick walls, electrical&nbsp;interference, insulation etc. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wherever you place your base unit will determine its area of effectiveness, but when you get to the edge of this area, your signal will begin to break up and you&#8217;ll eventually lose connection with your cordless phone if you venture further.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"866\" height=\"507\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-out-of-range.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1885\" srcset=\"https:\/\/m2staging.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-out-of-range.png 866w, https:\/\/m2staging.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-out-of-range-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/m2staging.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-out-of-range-768x450.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 866px) 100vw, 866px\" \/><figcaption>The additional handset to the right of the picture is outside the range of the main base unit and can&#8217;t obtain a proper signal so cannot be used in this location.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-css-opacity has-luminous-vivid-orange-background-color has-background is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-a-repeater-works\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_a_repeater_works\"><\/span>How a repeater works<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A DECT repeater works by receiving and transmitting the signal from the existing base unit out from this point (where your existing unit is at its signal limit).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"866\" height=\"507\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-in-range.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1886\" srcset=\"https:\/\/m2staging.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-in-range.png 866w, https:\/\/m2staging.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-in-range-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/m2staging.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Handset-in-range-768x450.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 866px) 100vw, 866px\" \/><figcaption>The Repeater\/Range extender communicates with main base unit and further boosts the signal from its own point of origin so that handsets can also be used within its range also<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">The beauty of repeaters is that you can locate them almost anywhere indoors to give you the best range possible - usually somewhere high that has a good field of view of the area to be covered is best, but this is not always necessary.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-css-opacity has-luminous-vivid-orange-background-color has-background is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-install-a-dect-repeater\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_install_a_DECT_Repeater\"><\/span><strong>How to install a DECT Repeater<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prerequesits\"><\/span>Prerequesits<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To install a repeater you&#8217;ll need to register it your original base unit (effectively as an additional handset on the system)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to perform this operation near your phone&#8217;s base unit, with the repeater in hand.<br>Once complete you can simply unplug, then relocate the repeater to a suitable location. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-by-step\"><\/span><strong>Step-by-step<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><em>N.B This is a guide in a nutshell, you should consult both your repeater's and your cordless phone's user guide for more information.<\/em><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Put your phone&#8217;s base unit into registration mode &#8211; usually by pressing and holding the &#8220;page&#8221; or &#8220;find&#8221; button for 3-5 seconds. &nbsp;<em>There is more info on this on our <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmctelecom.co.uk\/blog\/how-do-i-register-my-dect-cordless-phone-handset\/\"><em>register handset posting, here.<\/em><\/a><br><\/li><li>Plugin your DECT repeater, or plug in the unit and then press and hold the registration button on the unit to put the unit into registration mode. <em>Most repeaters have some sort of indicator light to let you know what mode it&#8217;s in &#8211; please check your user guide for more info.<\/em><br><\/li><li>Once both units are in registration mode it shouldn&#8217;t be long until the two register together.
